Flipflop Wines: normally we would condemn Flipflop for using a silly name for a serious product, but not this time. This time, the name has a reason; to help supply foot coverings, in the form of flipflops, to the barefoot children of the world. The makers of Flipflop wines have teamed up with Underdog Wine Merchants and Soles4Souls to supply shoes to the unshod children of the world.
While this is a notable and praiseworthy endeavor, it accomplishes nothing if the wines are not up to par. Not the case here; these wines are excellent, affordable and at $7 a bottle, a real bargain. These are not just over run wines that have been bottled under a different label, but have been made at the Flipflop winery to their specific recipe. As an added intelligent and long needed attraction, the rear label contains serving instructions and a sweetness indicator which ends the mystery of picking the right wine for the right person or meal.
Flipflop 2010 California Pinot Grigio. If you like Pinot Grigio, you will love this wine. Flipflop 2010 California Pinot Noir. This popular Burgundian transplant shines in this offering from Flipflop. The color is a bright cherry red to match the rich cherry flavor and aroma of the wine. While the wine is dry, there appears to be fruit sweetness in the background. For those who have never indulged in the joys of a pinot noir wine, the Flipflop 2010 California Pinot Noir is a superb introduction to the variety without needing to take out as second mortgage to be able to afford it.

Flipflop 2010 California Moscato. The name Moscato on the label indicates a sweet wine in the bottle. Its sweetness is derived directly from the natural fruit sugars of the muscat grapes and not from any added sweeteners. The aroma of this wine is reminiscent of orange blossoms and summer flowers while its flavor mirrors orange marmalade, vanilla and spice. It is a very friendly wine to enjoy with fruit, fruit-based pastries, or alone as desert.
