Destiny, kismet or fate, but it was inevitable that sooner or later the wine industry would become intertwined with the cell phone age, more specifically, texting. The amalgamation finally happened when a winery named TXT Cellars was formed. To finalize their connection with texting, they named their wine in the abbreviated language used for texting. These wines have something other than a glitzy label going for them; they are decent wines that sell at very affordable prices. Their quality is considerably better than their low price tag of $7.99 indicates and each and every one of them holds a surprise.
TXT OMG!!! Chardonnay. The TXT OMG!!! Chardonnay is made from 100% chardonnay grapes that were grown in Italy and the wine, also made in Italy, definitely reflects the fine hand of an Italian winemaker. The full flavor of the Chardonnay grape along with the signature mineral background of Italian wines comes through with the first sip. The aroma is crisp and clean, stressing fresh apple with just a hint of citrus and tropical fruits which carry over to the flavor and then continue on to the finish. This is a delightful chardonnay at a very reasonable price and that combination is hard to beat.
TXT LMAO!!! Pinot Grigio. With all of the pinot grigio’s around these days, this wine is probably one of the better buys of this variety to be found. Like the chardonnay, the wine comes from the home of pinot grigio grapes, Veneto Italy and is guaranteed that the grapes originated there by the Italian government. The LMAO!!! Pinot Grigio is a soft, supple wine that is loaded with delicate fruit flavors while maintaining enough fruit acid to make it all work. It is a light, straw colored, dry white wine with a rich fruity bouquet and a lively raisiny-grape flavor that features hints of peach, apricot and lemon. It is the perfect wine to accompany pasta dishes that are served with white sauce, sea foods of all description.
TXT LOL!!! Riesling. For the price, one might expect a rather run-of-the-mill wine; not so. This wine was made in the Mosel River region of Germany, an area which has long been known for the quality of its grapes and the wines made from them. In fact, this wine has been granted the Qualitatswein classification by the German government . This classification assures the buyer that this wine is of better quality than the more common tafelwein (table wine) and if you know the Germans, you know that they take things like this seriously; very seriously. The wine is semi-sweet in keeping with the traditional style of riesling wines while also being crisp and fruity. The flavor accents peaches and apricots with a delightful raisin background. This wine, which tastes sweeter than it really is has a pear and honey flavor and a positive acid content, which is typical of the variety. This is the perfect sipping wine or as an accompaniment to highly seasoned foods.
TXT WTF!!! Pinot Noir. This too is a Qualitatswein coming from the famed Rheinhessen district of Germany. The idea of a decent pinot noir coming from Germany seems a bit silly at first glance but in recent years German pinot noirs have garnered medals in international tasting competitions. It took many years of very hard work to find the right area to grow the pinot noir grapes and even longer learning to handle this temperamental grape. All of these factors finally came together and the WTF!!! Pinot Noir is a good example of all that work. The color is a bright cherry red to match the rich cherry flavor and aroma of the wine. While the wine is dry, there appears to be a fruit sweetness in the background as well as an interesting and complex finish. For those who have never indulged in the joys of a pinot noir wine, the WTF!!! Pinot Noir is a very good and inexpensive introduction to the variety, in spite of its name.
